Lara Carew-Jones is a British artist currently living and painting near Galle in Sri Lanka. Her distinctively bold, colourful acrylic compositions possess a strong graphic quality.
Balance is her primary focus and she conveys this through her harmonious colour palette as well as the carefully designed interplay between positive and negative space. Her works are invariably imbued with a sense of calm and serenity while simultaneously brimming with life and vibrancy.
Since graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 2008 with an MA in History of Art, Lara has travelled the world extensively and also draws on the various cultures and unique beauty of different countries in her work. She puts her signature stamp on the landscapes, buildings, people and animals she encounters. Creating snapshots in time that draw the viewer in, as if they too were an observer of the scene.
Lara’s travels to India have been a particular highlight and tremendous source of inspiration. Her recent visit to Morocco, which is the focus for her current series of works, has also reignited a passion for the colours, special light, architecture and bustling atmosphere she experienced there.
Her next destination will be Namibia and we can’t wait to see how it inspires her.
