Dave White skilfully captures the lesser-spotted British wildlife in Albion...

Rob Wilkes, We Heart, December 11, 2014

Here in Britain we’re blessed with some amazing native animals, but it’s not always easy to spot the elusive little blighters. While some species have crossed over into urban living – the fox for example – the majority of the most interesting wildlife keeps a low profile in the countryside, and requires a sharp pair of eyes and a good deal of stealth to catch even a momentary glimpse.

Artist Dave White is offering us a chance to clock a proper look at Britain’s animals without having to crouch in the bushes for hours with his latest series Albion, currently on show at Loughran Gallery‘s London venue. The installation comprises oil paintings, works on paper, a collectors’ box set and limited edition silkscreen prints, delivered in White’s trademark style which blends fine detail with looser, almost blurred brush strokes that reflect the subjects’ elusive movement, and in some cases their precarious endangered status. Keeping things all so terribly English; his creative process is beautifully illustrated in the decoration of that most dynamic of British cars, the classic E-Type Jaguar – that’s one time you’d be happy for a bird to streak your paintwork. Albion runs until 25 October, no binoculars necessary.
